On April 17, the Indian government issued a notification authorizing the use of ethanol in the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Decarbonizing the aviation sector remains challenging, as batteries and hydrogen are not yet viable for large-scale commercial aircraft operations. Consequently, SAF serves as the main method for meeting global emissions standards. To make ethanol suitable for jet engines, it undergoes an alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) process involving dehydration, extension of hydrocarbon chains, and hydrogenation.
