India on Tuesday accused Pakistan of circulating false reports and misleading content to divert focus from alleged human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The statement followed a violent crackdown on demonstrators in Rawalakot several days earlier, leaving the region tense.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted a repeated pattern of fabricated news and videos from Pakistan. He described it as an effort to hide domestic shortcomings and shift attention from reported abuses.
Jaiswal cited accounts of police violence in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir that resulted in protester deaths and injuries. He expressed hope that the international community would hold Pakistan responsible for its actions.
Reports indicate the Rawalakot operation caused at least 27 deaths, though unverified social media posts claim higher casualties. The area remains unsettled as protest groups prepare further actions, while authorities have signaled plans to stop a proposed march across the region.
