Hours after 11 people were killed in clashes with police in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, New Delhi criticised Islamabad and expressed hope that the international community would hold the country accountable for its actions. During a press briefing, the MEA spokesperson noted a pattern of misleading reports and videos from Pakistan, describing them as an effort to hide domestic shortcomings and shift focus from human rights concerns. Reports indicated severe police action in the region, resulting in deaths and injuries. The spokesperson said the international community should hold Pakistan responsible for its conduct. The violence occurred ahead of a planned protest by a banned alliance of civil society groups. Protesters had gathered near a hospital morgue following an earlier death in police firing. Officials stated that four police officers and one bystander were killed when armed individuals opened fire, while six protesters died in the security response. Twenty-three security personnel and 50 protesters were injured, with 30 people detained. The alliance called for a strike against reserved seats for refugees in upcoming regional elections. The group seeks the removal of these seats, which are contested by candidates living outside the region. Authorities had banned the alliance under anti-terror laws and advised tourists to leave before the protest date.
