A Hyderabad pediatrician stated that her resignation from the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, submitted nearly two months earlier, has been accepted. In a social media post, she noted that the acceptance removes any need for restraint in criticizing the group’s leadership. She claimed recent leaders have favored pharmaceutical funding over child welfare, unlike earlier ethical figures who advanced key achievements. The doctor urged the National Medical Commission and the Union Health Ministry to examine the ongoing promotion of ORSL, a high-sugar hydration product from Kenvue, at IAP conferences. She said repeated complaints to leaders went unaddressed and alleged the drink, which exceeds WHO oral rehydration standards, is marketed misleadingly in schools and clinics. She also raised concerns about inadequate warnings on sucralose drinks for children and questioned the lack of response to company claims about conference presentations. Leaders who did not forward these issues to the ministry should explain to families whose children experienced worsened diarrhea, she added.
