Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma enlarged his cabinet on Friday, June 5, 2026, raising the total number of ministers to 17. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to 12 legislators—11 from the BJP and one from the Asom Gana Parishad—at Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir in Guwahati. The Chief Minister described the group as balanced and representative of all sections of society, saying their experience would help build a developed Assam. Sarma had assumed office on May 12 along with four other ministers. Eight of the new ministers have prior experience, while the remaining four include first-time legislators and former office holders. The BJP-led alliance secured 102 seats in the April assembly elections, retaining power in the 126-member house. Assam may have up to 19 ministers including the Chief Minister.
