Following a recent increase of ₹29, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Chennai has reached ₹957.50 starting Sunday, June 7, 2026. The previous adjustment occurred on March 7 with a ₹60 rise per refill. Over three months the total increase amounts to ₹89 for a 14.2 kg cylinder. Customers who booked refills earlier but have not yet received them must pay the new rate, with existing bills cancelled and new ones issued. Those who paid online can settle the difference with delivery personnel. Consumer activist T. Sadagopan described the change as an unexpected burden, noting that oil companies reported high profits last year yet now cite inability to absorb costs. He highlighted rising expenses for fuel and household essentials affecting salaried families. Industry sources indicated oil marketing companies incur an extra ₹700 per cylinder without passing costs fully to buyers. Distributors reported receiving only half their usual supply and facing ongoing backlogs, though they prioritize emergency requests.
