Privacy-oriented search provider DuckDuckGo reports a notable increase in application downloads and visitor numbers amid growing user dissatisfaction with Google’s AI enhancements to its search platform.
The growth comes after Google unveiled significant Search changes at its annual developer event. These include broader use of AI-created overviews, interactive query tools, and an ‘AI Mode’ feature enabling direct follow-up questions within results rather than relying on external site links.
Although Google presented the changes as progress in search technology, users and site operators have expressed worries regarding potential errors in AI outputs, lower traffic to original sources, and absence of an easy way to turn off the AI functions entirely.
