Canadian authorities have taken into custody a 32-year-old man seven months after the death of a 30-year-old Indian-origin woman in Toronto. Himanshi Khurana was discovered deceased on December 20 at a residence, which police classified as an instance of intimate partner violence. Her partner, Abdul Ghafoori from Toronto, faced a first-degree murder charge and was apprehended at an airport on Friday. Toronto police units collaborated with domestic and foreign agencies to return him to Canada, though the location where he was found remains undisclosed. The incident marked Toronto’s 40th homicide of 2025. Officers responded to a missing person report on December 19 near Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West, locating the body the following morning inside a home. Investigators later established an intimate partner connection between the accused and victim, leading to a national warrant and public appeals with a released photograph. The case drew notice in Canada and India. The Indian Consulate in Toronto voiced shock at the killing of an Indian national and stated it is coordinating with local officials while providing support to the family.
