The results of the urban local body elections in Andhra Pradesh for 2026 have shown a clear dominance by the ruling National Democratic Alliance. This coalition includes the Telugu Desam Party along with its partners and secured control over the majority of municipal bodies throughout the state. The opposition faced significant losses in most urban areas where voting took place.

Counting of votes wrapped up over two days in early November confirming the outcome. The alliance captured a large share of mayoral positions in key cities and towns. This performance highlights strong support in several regions including coastal and southern districts.

In Tirupati the candidate from the Telugu Desam Party won by a wide margin exceeding thirty thousand votes. Similar decisive victories occurred in places such as Nellore where the margin reached over eighteen thousand votes. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation saw an even larger lead for the winning candidate from the same party.

Vijayawada went to a representative from the Jana Sena Party who defeated the main rival by a substantial number of votes. Other cities including Chittoor Guntur Eluru Vizianagaram Kurnool Kadapa Ongole and Machilipatnam also returned winners aligned with the ruling coalition. One exception was Anantapur where the opposition secured the mayoral seat.

Across the eighty seven municipalities the alliance took seventy nine positions. This left only a handful for the main opposition group. Notable wins included Pulivendula where a candidate overcame a strong local challenger by nearly fourteen thousand votes. Pithapuram and Pedana also fell to alliance candidates.

The Bharatiya Janata Party part of the coalition contested around two hundred sixty seats and secured approximately one hundred fifty five of them. This included thirty three corporator positions contributing to the overall tally. The coalition achieved a high success rate close to ninety two percent in the corporation level contests.

Leaders from the Telugu Desam Party credited the outcome to public approval of ongoing welfare initiatives and development efforts led by the state government. They described the results as a reflection of trust in the administration’s direction.

The opposition leader raised concerns about the fairness of the entire electoral process including stages from candidate nominations through to the final counting. These claims have not altered the official declaration of results.

The elections covered one hundred urban local bodies consisting of thirteen municipal corporations and eighty seven municipalities along with nagar panchayats. Polling occurred on the first of November using traditional paper ballots rather than electronic machines following earlier directives from the highest court. Repolling took place where necessary on the following day with counting starting shortly after.

These local body elections serve as an important indicator of voter sentiment in urban centers ahead of future state level contests. The alliance now holds a firm position in most municipal administrations which could influence local governance and service delivery in the coming years. The Telugu Desam Party secured or led in ten of the thirteen corporations while its partner claimed the remaining contested mayoral roles except for the one opposition win.

Background on the urban local bodies shows they manage essential services such as water supply sanitation and urban planning in growing towns and cities. The scale of the victory suggests coordinated campaign efforts across the coalition partners. Voter turnout details were not immediately highlighted but the use of paper ballots ensured a transparent manual counting process observed by representatives from all sides.

Overall the outcome reinforces the coalition’s hold on urban Andhra Pradesh while leaving the opposition with limited footholds in a few specific locations. Future municipal governance is expected to align closely with state level priorities on infrastructure and public welfare programs.
