Australian all-rounder Cameron Green made his bowling debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL 2026 encounter against Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens on Thursday, but the effort did not yield positive results. The fast bowler began with an over that cost 12 runs and included the dismissal of Rishabh Pant. However, his subsequent over proved disastrous. With LSG requiring 30 runs from the last 12 deliveries, Green conceded 16 runs, including two sixes and a four to Mukul Choudhary.
Purchased by KKR for 25.2 crore rupees, Green has been under scrutiny for his lackluster batting, amassing just 56 runs across four games at an average of 18.67. His bowling difficulties intensified the pressure, prompting widespread mockery from fans online.
Social media reactions highlighted the disappointment:
One user posted an image noting Green’s two overs yielded 28 runs at an economy of 14.
Another commented that Green’s tenure with KKR might be short-lived.
A third contrasted Green’s high price tag of 25 crore with Choudhary’s 2.6 crore, referencing team owners.
A fourth praised Choudhary’s explosive innings, calling him an emerging IPL talent after he dismantled Green’s bowling and secured victory with composure.
Choudhary emerged as the match hero, remaining unbeaten on 54 from 27 balls, featuring two boundaries and seven maximums, steering LSG to a dramatic win on the final delivery.
KKR leader Ajinkya Rahane supported his bowling unit and commended Choudhary post-match.
‘LSG had little to lose in those final two overs needing 30 runs. They swung at every ball, and he showed real courage with those strokes. Some were outstanding shots. We delivered a few good balls, but his batting was exceptional. Fielding errors occurred, but overall, our bowlers performed well,’ Rahane stated.
‘It’s easy to dwell on mistakes after a defeat. We posted a competitive 180-185 on a tricky pitch where big hits were tough due to slow deliveries gripping. Credit goes to the batsman for his brilliant play,’ he continued.
