A well-known proverb suggests that a lack of play can dull the mind. Recent findings indicate that insufficient exercise might have a similar effect, at least in mice.
Scientists from Seoul National University and the Korea Brain Research Institute in South Korea discovered that aerobic activity stimulates the production of a specific protein in mice’s skeletal muscles. This protein circulates through the bloodstream to the brain, where it improves the process of converting short-term memories into long-term ones.
