In Hyderabad, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, previously a Member of Parliament from Nizamabad and daughter of former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, introduced her new political organization on Saturday. This development follows her suspension from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), about 10 months ago due to claims of actions against party interests.

The event occurred in a venue in Medchal-Malkajgiri district capable of holding 50,000 people, where Kavitha spoke to an excited audience. She described her Telangana Rashtra Sena as a means to support the state’s 35 million residents in a nurturing role.

Kavitha emphasized that the party aims to drive significant improvements via effective administration, combining grassroots activism with formal authority to achieve fairness and the ideal vision for the region. She honored those who campaigned for state independence but mentioned her father only briefly.

She highlighted five main focuses: education, medical services, job opportunities, agricultural support, and equity, labeling them the ‘Panchajanya Reform’ inspired by a mythological symbol.

These goals build on her earlier March statement about promoting broad progress, inclusive growth, and independence.

Kavitha promised to prioritize public needs over personal gain, positioning her group as an option against the allegedly dishonest current Congress administration, the faltering BRS that has let down residents, and the uninvolved Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which she said opposed the state’s separation from Andhra Pradesh.

She criticized her father, the BRS leader, claiming authority had altered him and that he no longer prioritizes public concerns. Kavitha vowed to oppose him for the benefit of the area’s people.

Recognizing her family’s role in governing the state, she offered a sincere apology for errors made during the BRS’s decade in power by some individuals, implicitly pointing to her brother KT Rama Rao and cousins T Harish Rao and J Santhosh Rao. She stated the new party serves as a way to make amends.

Kavitha assured equal attention to all societal groups if elected. She described the state’s progress as derailed, with ongoing hardships for farmers, Dalits, and threats to individual liberties under current leadership. She stressed the need for political influence to fulfill ambitions.

She faulted Congress, BJP, and BRS for failing to deliver on commitments related to water, funding, and employment. Kavitha advocated for a compassionate, supportive style of leadership similar to maternal care, accusing past regimes of neglecting farmers, young people, business owners, and underrepresented groups.

The family discord escalated in September 2023 when K Chandrashekar Rao suspended her for activities deemed harmful to the party. Prior to that, in a public message, Kavitha blamed her cousins for not protecting her father from issues tied to the Kaleshwaram irrigation initiative, accusing them of working with Congress to gain wealth and damage his reputation. She also hinted at tensions with her brother over internal party divisions.
