Authorities in southwestern China have demolished a 10-storey makeshift home that had drawn tourists for its unusual appearance. The structure, built over eight years by resident Chen Tianming in a village in Guizhou province, started as a single-storey bungalow and grew into a stacked plywood pyramid held by bamboo scaffolding. Officials cited missing permits and safety risks for the action, which took place after a final eviction notice. Chen stated he felt no regret and plans to seek legal recourse to challenge the demolition as unlawful, with hopes of rebuilding. The village had faced earlier demolition in 2018 for a planned resort development.
