Compressed natural gas prices in Mumbai rose by two rupees per kilogram on May 20, 2026. This marks the second increase within 16 days, driven by higher gas procurement expenses amid supply issues from the West Asia conflict.
Mahanagar Gas Ltd, the main distributor in the region, also raised domestic piped natural gas rates by 0.5 rupees per standard cubic meter.
The new CNG price stands at 86 rupees per kilogram, while domestic piped gas costs 52 rupees per cubic meter.
The company attributed the changes to elevated procurement costs from lower domestic gas allocations, reliance on pricier sources, and rupee depreciation.
It noted ongoing efforts to reduce expenses and promote natural gas use.
Since May 14, CNG prices have climbed by four rupees per kilogram.
Earlier, support schemes for commercial users were ended due to the regional crisis.
Similar price adjustments occurred in other areas, with Indraprastha Gas Limited raising CNG by six rupees per kilogram in multiple steps, and other distributors following suit variably.
