Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated it struck an airbase used by American forces for an operation against Sirik Island in southern Iran, according to Iranian media reports. The island lies in the Strait of Hormuz. The Guard claimed the United States had aimed at a telecommunications tower there. Kuwait’s military announced that its air defenses were intercepting incoming missiles and drones. The army’s general staff noted that any explosion sounds resulted from these defensive actions against hostile targets. State news agency Kuna said air raid sirens sounded throughout the country. US Central Command reported conducting strikes on Iranian targets over the weekend, shortly after Kuwait’s announcement. Describing the moves as self-defense, the United States said it targeted radar and command facilities for drones at Goruk and on Qeshm Island. The command linked the action to recent Iranian moves, including the downing of a US MQ-1 drone over international waters. These strikes represent the third breach of the April ceasefire between Iran and the United States. Earlier incidents were minimized by both sides, allowing the truce to hold. The latest events occur as the Trump administration and Iranian leaders pursue diplomatic efforts for a permanent ceasefire and resumed shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Kuwait’s military confirmed its air defenses were engaging hostile missiles and drones after the United States carried out weekend strikes on radar and control sites in Iran. Kuwaiti state media reported sirens across the nation on Monday morning. Central Command said the measured strikes on Saturday and Sunday responded to Iranian aggression, including the drone shootdown. US aircraft destroyed Iranian air defenses, a ground station, and two attack drones threatening regional shipping. Kuwait was among Gulf states facing Iranian reprisals after the US and Israel began operations in February. The April ceasefire has largely remained intact since then.
