In preparation for the Bhogapuram International Airport opening in early July, district officials have accelerated efforts to link Visakhapatnam city with the new facility. The Beach Road section from R. K. Beach to Bheemunipatnam is under consideration for upgrades aimed at improving access for future passengers. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is evaluating options to introduce bus services along this corridor. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation staff recently reviewed the route to determine infrastructure requirements and enhance traffic movement. Several connecting roads, such as Rushikonda-Yendada, Timmapuram-Marikavalasa, Mangamaripeta-Boyapalem, IT Hills-Madhurawada, and Bheemunipatnam-Tagarapuvalasa, are expected to serve as primary links to the airport. Officials noted numerous speed breakers on the Beach Road that may hinder flow once airport traffic rises. City traffic police have begun a survey to locate unnecessary speed breakers installed over time to deter reckless driving. Authorities are assessing which ones can be removed while maintaining safety standards. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K. Praveen Kumar stated that inspections are in progress to identify and eliminate unneeded speed breakers after evaluation, with the goal of ensuring steady vehicle movement on this key airport route. He added that major road redesigns are unlikely since core infrastructure already exists. The corridor features extensive CCTV coverage, which could be expanded through the state-approved SARTHI project for better monitoring. Police also intend to boost patrols and may add outposts or personnel as needed to support safety once operations begin.
