The India Meteorological Department has issued forecasts for thunderstorm activity in several northern, central and western regions over the coming days. Strong winds, hail and isolated dust storms are anticipated in multiple states. While rain may ease rising temperatures in some areas, Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra are set for ongoing showers and storms.

Rain fell across parts of Mumbai and its suburbs on Wednesday morning. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and winds of 40-50 kmph is likely over Konkan and Goa from 3 to 6 June. Similar conditions are forecast for Mumbai and surrounding districts. Madhya Maharashtra is expected to see comparable weather, while Marathwada may receive rain on 3 and 4 June.

Gujarat is also likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms between 3 and 5 June, with thundersqualls and winds up to 70 kmph possible on 3 June.

Bihar faces heatwave conditions later in the week. Thunderstorms with winds of 50-60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, are expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on 3 and 4 June. West Rajasthan may see similar activity on 3 June and East Rajasthan on 3 and 4 June, along with isolated dust storms on Wednesday.

Central India is forecast to receive isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds over the next five days. Madhya Pradesh could experience thundersqualls of 50-60 kmph, up to 70 kmph, on 3 and 4 June, with isolated hail possible on 4 June. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to see comparable conditions from 4 to 6 June.

Maximum temperatures in northwest India may rise 2-4°C until 3 June before dropping by a similar amount, then increasing again around 7 and 8 June. Eastern India temperatures could climb 2-3°C until 3 June before stabilising. Maharashtra is expected to record a 2-3°C fall until 3 June due to rain. Delhi is likely to remain partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms and light rain.
