Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev has resigned from the Rajya Sabha, creating another setback for Mamata Banerjee. This marks the second resignation by a TMC member from the upper house in two days, according to party sources.
In a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan, Dev stated: “I do hereby resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha, which may please be accepted with immediate effect.” She also thanked the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and secretariat staff for their assistance during her term.
Dev had met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi on June 10. Speculation suggests she may join the BJP later. She had previously switched from Congress to TMC.
The resignation comes amid internal party conflicts and multiple exits following the assembly election loss.
A day earlier, veteran TMC leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray resigned from the party and his Rajya Sabha seat, citing difficulty in continuing. He blamed the defeat on the party’s “15-year anarchical rule.”
On May 27, Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar resigned from organizational posts and raised concerns over corruption and party management.
