President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for becoming India’s longest continuously serving elected prime minister after 4,399 days in office. In a letter, she called the milestone a sign of repeated voter trust in his leadership across multiple elections. The President noted that the prime minister’s role requires exceptional dedication, endurance and commitment. She stressed that the achievement reflected not only time in office but also public confidence. Over the past twelve years, the country has seen significant progress in many sectors, including greater involvement of women in financial inclusion efforts. Technology has enhanced governance by increasing transparency, accountability and service delivery, allowing welfare programmes to reach people more efficiently and strengthening citizen-government relations. Development efforts have emphasised public participation, dignity and equal opportunity. Initiatives addressing poverty reduction, healthcare, farmers’ welfare and middle-class support have benefited millions. The President singled out the PM-JANMAN scheme for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups as especially important for reaching marginalised communities. She also noted infrastructure and development improvements in eastern and northeastern regions. Ms Murmu described Mr Modi’s journey from modest origins to the nation’s top elected post as an inspiring example of Indian democracy, showing that public service remains accessible through dedication and effort. She expressed confidence that his leadership would advance the vision of a self-reliant and developed India.
