World number 10 PV Sindhu advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open at Sydney’s Quaycentre after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chen Su Yu in straight sets. The match lasted 27 minutes, with Sindhu securing a 21-6, 21-9 victory by dominating from the start. This marks her second semifinal of the season following her earlier run at the Malaysia Open 2026. She will next face top seed Akane Yamaguchi, a three-time world champion. The pair have met 29 times, with Sindhu holding a 15-13 head-to-head lead, though Yamaguchi has won four of the last five encounters. Yamaguchi reached the semis by beating India’s Tanvi Sharma 21-14, 21-14. In men’s doubles, India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun retired in the second game. Sindhu had earlier defeated compatriot Isharani Baruah 22-20, 21-12. Tanvi Sharma also progressed by overcoming Malvika Bansod 21-13, 21-15.
