AIADMK factions reach agreement two weeks after legislature party division
Nearly a fortnight following the split in the AIADMK Legislature Party, the opposing groups led by general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and former minister S.P. Velumani settled their differences and reached an understanding. The legislators aligned with Mr. Velumani submitted letters to Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar requesting forgiveness for voting against the party whip during the confidence motion for the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay government on May 13.
Chief Minister’s initial encounter with Prime Minister
On his first trip to New Delhi since taking office, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He is expected to meet Congress leaders the following day.

Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan stated in Madurai that the current administration need not follow the prior policy requiring the Chief Minister to serve as university chancellor. The remark drew criticism from the DMK and VCK.
Goondas Act applied in Sulur assault and murder case
Two men held over the sexual assault and killing of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur in Coimbatore have been placed under the Goondas Act. A court extended their judicial custody until June 5. The suspects are K. Karthi, 35, from Nagapattinam, and R. Mohan, 31, from Thanjavur, previously charged under the POCSO Act.
