Kevin Beresford, a 74-year-old Birmingham businessman, created merchandise featuring Aston Villa player John McGinn to mark Scotland’s participation in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Haiti in Boston. The items include coasters, mugs and metal prints, inspired by McGinn’s humorous reputation and his well-known use of his physique on the pitch. Beresford said he wanted to offer something different because Scotland rarely reaches the World Cup. An Aston Villa supporter, he described McGinn as a key figure for both club and country. Fans refer to him as BraveArse due to his unorthodox method of holding off opponents by extending his lower body while maintaining balance. McGinn has previously joked about the technique in interviews, noting it has helped his career. After Scotland’s 1-0 win over Haiti, the merchandise gained renewed attention.
