Penguin Random House India has withdrawn from plans to distribute Joe Sacco’s graphic novel The Once and Future Riot, which documents the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. The cartoonist and journalist stated that at least six Indian publishers have contacted him regarding publication of the book.
Sacco, who helped establish war reporting through comics and has covered Palestine and the Bosnian War with works translated into 14 languages, told The Indian Express that the interest indicates India still has people willing to uphold open inquiry and resist pressures limiting political reflection.
