A late-night journey turned fatal when a coal truck struck a van carrying musicians in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, killing seven people and injuring one, police reported on Friday. Local residents briefly blocked the highway in protest before authorities cleared the route. Chief Minister Hemant Soren conveyed condolences, wishing peace for the deceased and strength for their families.

The collision happened near Barlong Budhbazar under Rajrappa police station limits around midnight. Six victims died instantly, while another passed away during treatment at a local hospital. The injured individual was transferred to Ranchi for advanced care. All bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.

The passengers, residents of Marangmarcha and Balsagra, were heading to an event. The van sustained heavy damage from the impact. Villagers claimed multiple fatal accidents had occurred in the area recently due to administrative lapses.

In a separate event on June 23, a stampede-like situation erupted at Ranchi’s JSCA Stadium during the Jharkhand T20 League final after free entry drew unexpectedly large crowds. Gates were shut, leading to unrest outside. Four or five people sustained minor injuries before police restored order.
