Greece is preparing its first mission to send an astronaut to the International Space Station, described as historic by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ office. The plan forms part of a national space strategy extending to 2035 and aligns with the European Space Agency’s astronaut training program. Astronomer and ESA flight surgeon Adrianos Golemis has been selected for the mission, expected to last up to three weeks and launch within two years. Greece has obtained 350 million euros in European funding for space initiatives over the next four years. Golemis will perform experiments and technology demonstrations developed by Greek research teams, organizations, and universities. Officials highlighted benefits for the national scientific community and opportunities for Greek companies to showcase space innovations.
