Assam police have arrested two armed members of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) in Tinsukia district, stating that they prevented a potential large-scale terror incident. The arrests occurred on Friday in Jagun. The individuals, identified as Humenjyoti Baruah, aged 27, and Papu Moran, aged 30, both from Tinsukia, hold self-styled ranks of second lieutenant. According to Tinsukia SSP Mayank Kumar, the operation involved assistance from central agencies. Initial inquiries revealed plans for random shootings targeting civilians in Tinsukia to instill fear, with indications of external influences aiming to destabilize the area. The suspects are also linked to prior attacks by the group in the region.
