The United States and India are close to finalizing their trade agreement, with only the remaining one percent of talks still unresolved, according to US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. Speaking on June 30, 2026, at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit in Washington, he expressed optimism that the pact would be completed soon after roughly 18 months of discussions. Gor noted that the agreement is largely finished, though a few outstanding issues persist on each side, and he stressed its mutual benefits for both countries. He highlighted the strong bilateral ties, driven by the personal rapport between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ambassador pointed out that negotiations have lasted a year and a half amid two decades of prior trade relations, and he remains committed to wrapping up the deal ahead of any European agreement. He also recalled Trump’s positive memories of his previous visit to India and mentioned plans for a return trip. Additionally, Gor announced that Quad foreign ministers will convene in the Philippines within the next two weeks.
