According to the Narcotics Control Bureau’s Annual Report 2025, 747 foreign nationals were detained in India during 2025 for narcotics-related offenses. The largest groups originated from Nepal with 203 individuals, Nigeria with 143, and Myanmar with 97.
Country-wise figures showed Bangladesh with 17 detentions, Kenya with 10, Ghana with 9, and Uganda with 6. Russia, Brazil, Israel, Senegal, and Tanzania each accounted for four cases. Smaller numbers involved Afghanistan, Cameroon, Germany, Japan, Sudan, and Sweden. Information on roughly 203 individuals was not broken down by nationality.
The total rose from 660 detentions in 2024 and 735 in 2023. Earlier years recorded 777 in 2022 and 593 in 2021.
