Australia won the toss and chose to bowl against the West Indies in the opening semifinal of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at The Oval. The captain explained the decision by pointing to increased grass cover on the surface, which she believed would help the bowlers create early pressure. The side remained the same for the match. She described the West Indies as a strong opponent and stressed the importance of following their own strategy.
The West Indies captain said she was content to bat first after losing the toss. Although the team had hoped to bowl, she noted the pitch was unlikely to change much and said the side would play with an aggressive and fearless approach since they had nothing to lose.
