Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi left the government bungalow that served as her residence and the RJD headquarters for nearly twenty years on Thursday. She relocated to her own private property following directives from the Samrat Choudhary administration. The bungalow has now been assigned to a party leader and minister. Observers view the change as an indication of declining influence for the opposition family’s leadership, which maintained positive relations with the previous ruling coalition under Nitish Kumar. Rabri Devi, spouse of Lalu Prasad Yadav, received the property at 10 Circular Road, situated near the chief minister’s residence and the Governor’s House, from an earlier Nitish Kumar government after her 2005 electoral defeat. She has moved to her house in Kautilya Nagar, roughly two kilometers distant. Initial instructions to vacate came last November, when the bungalow was designated for the deputy chief minister. As leader of the opposition in the legislative council, she received an alternative residence but declined it due to its smaller size and perceived negative associations. Recent orders required her to shift to another address by June 29. After initial resistance that drew public attention, she complied to avoid further criticism of the RJD. Her younger son occupies a separate ministerial bungalow, while her elder son resides in another government property linked to his new political group. The departure concludes nearly two decades at the Circular Road location, which functioned as both home and party office.
