Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a three-nation tour of Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand aimed at boosting cooperation in security, trade, technology and the Indo-Pacific. On arrival in Indonesia, Modi said talks with President Prabowo Subianto would give fresh impetus to the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in multiple areas. The visit supports India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. President Subianto personally welcomed Modi at the airport along with four ministers. The Prime Minister received a traditional ceremonial greeting, a Guard of Honour and an escort by Indonesian Air Force jets after entering national airspace. This marks Modi’s first bilateral visit to Indonesia since relations were upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. Modi will next travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese before concluding the tour in Auckland at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
