Gurugram Police issued an advisory on Tuesday asking corporate offices and private firms to permit work from home for the next few days. The move aims to cut traffic volume and improve safety during forecasts of continued heavy rainfall across the National Capital Region.
Persistent downpours have already caused waterlogging and major disruptions on key routes in Gurugram. Officials warned that further showers could worsen flooding at major intersections and reduce road capacity.
The advisory highlighted risks of congestion and urged businesses to adopt flexible arrangements. It stressed that fewer vehicles would help emergency services and allow better traffic management by local teams.
A section of National Highway 48 near Narsinghpur collapsed after intense rain, forcing closure of two lanes. Long queues formed from Hero Honda Chowk to Kherki Daula Toll Plaza. Temporary diversions were set up directing Delhi-bound traffic onto Southern Peripheral Road or the Dwarka Expressway.
Additional cave-ins occurred on Civil Line Road where recent sewer work had taken place. Two parked vehicles were trapped when the surface gave way. Residents noted that even routes near senior officials’ homes suffered damage, raising questions about monsoon preparedness.
The heaviest rain fell between 2 pm and 4 pm, coinciding with school closing times. Several school buses and commuters faced long delays. One empty school bus slid into an open drain on NH-48, though no injuries occurred.
Traffic bottlenecks were reported at multiple points including Rajiv Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road, Iffco Chowk, Sohna Road and Udyog Vihar. District data showed up to 82 mm of rainfall in parts of Gurugram on Tuesday.
