The India Meteorological Department reported that the southwest monsoon has covered the entire country as of Thursday. This season marks the slowest advance since 2021, when nationwide coverage was achieved on July 12.

The IMD noted that the monsoon moved into remaining areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and the north Arabian Sea on July 9. It reached full coverage across India one day after the normal date.

Recent years saw earlier completion: June 29 in 2025, July 2 in 2024, July 2 in 2023 and July 2 in 2022.

June rainfall showed a 40 percent deficit nationwide. Active conditions since early July have largely offset those shortfalls.
