A wedding event in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati became the site of a fatal incident when two men were fatally stabbed outside the Sri Padmavathi Kalyana Mandapam near Lakshmipuram Circle on Wednesday night. The deaths reportedly stemmed from a family-related argument.
The deceased were named as Munirathnam, aged 50, and Manikantha, aged 42. Both were assaulted with knives near the TTD-operated venue during an ongoing ceremony. Munirathnam died immediately, while Manikantha succumbed to severe wounds en route to the government RUIA Hospital.
The incident triggered alarm among attendees and nearby residents. Authorities noted bloodstains on the road outside the location.
Police reports indicate the clash arose from a marital dispute. Sampoornamma, whose daughter had wed a man called Sunil and had been living apart from him, learned he planned to attend the event. She alerted Munirathnam and Manikantha, who then approached Sunil at the hall regarding the separation. The situation intensified when Sunil’s relatives intervened, leading to the stabbings before the attackers fled.
Initial reports mentioned a woman and four men, but witnesses described three men arriving by motorcycle, carrying out the assault, and departing. A bystander video later circulated widely.
East DSP Bhaktavatsalam, along with CI Srinivasulu and West CI Ramakrishna, arrived to probe the case. Officers reviewed local CCTV, pinpointing suspects believed to be from Jangalapalli in Yerpedu mandal. The individuals were detained before exiting Tirupati and remain under questioning as inquiries proceed.
