India’s seafood exports rose to a record Rs 73,800 crore in 2025-26 from Rs 62,000 crore the year before, even after facing a 58% US tariff. Union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh credited the increase to free trade agreements signed with several countries. He spoke in Bhubaneswar at the national launch of a Letter of Authorisation for sustainable high-seas fishing. Singh noted that the United States remains India’s top shrimp buyer, taking more than 40% of total exports. The tariff created widespread concern, yet Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged officials to address the issue and seek solutions.
