CPI(M) State Secretary Shanmugam questioned the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to offer government jobs to families of those killed in the Karur stampede. He argued that such appointments should follow a uniform policy rather than case-specific choices.

He noted that the 41 victims had attended a TVK campaign event, raising concerns that the government might be using its powers because the deceased were linked to the party’s programme. Shanmugam added that the stampede investigation remains pending and warned that job announcements during judicial scrutiny could affect proceedings.

He stressed the difference between a political party arranging private employment and the state offering government positions. CPI(M) urged the government to create transparent guidelines for compassionate appointments and to hold the current decision until a full policy is established.
