PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday called on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to grant government jobs to relatives of those killed in police firing during the Vanniyar reservation protests, similar to support given to families of Karur stampede victims.
In a statement, he welcomed the chief minister’s compassionate approach but said such measures should extend to all groups affected by comparable events over time. He specifically mentioned families of 25 people, including 21 killed in police firing and others who died from repression, during the road blockade that started on September 17, 1987.
Anbumani stated that the government has a duty to provide employment and assistance to the families of those killed in the reservation agitation.
