A property dispute and conflict over a government job reportedly prompted a 23-year-old law student to kill her mother and stage the death as a road accident, police said on Saturday.
Ayushi Sharma, in her final year of an LLB course, was detained earlier this week. Investigators stated that the death of her 45-year-old mother, Neeraj Sharma, was arranged to appear as a hit-and-run by a speeding vehicle in Jaipur’s Pratap Nagar area. Along with the student, six others were arrested, and police are searching for her cousin Balram.
Officers said the death of Ayushi’s father, a government worker named Vijay Kumar Sharma, sparked the conflict. Ayushi reportedly wanted the compassionate appointment offered to the family, but her mother accepted the post instead. The disagreement later extended to family property matters.
Ayushi had moved to a shared house in Kalyan Nagar on Tonk Road with her cousin. Police allege the murder plan was formed there, with Balram agreeing to assist for a portion of property in Bharatpur. The pair allegedly paid a hitman seven lakh rupees after studying the victim’s daily routine.
Assistant Commissioner Harishankar Sharma noted that CCTV footage showed the vehicle moving at about 12 kmph with space to avoid impact, indicating intent. Phone records also revealed accomplices monitoring movements. Police continue to identify all involved.
