Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party leaders met Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Saturday, July 11, 2026, and accused the Aam Aadmi Party administration of misusing official resources and undermining the electoral process in recent urban local body elections.

State BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon handed over a memorandum to the Governor requesting intervention to protect constitutional procedures. He claimed the ruling party altered ward boundaries for its advantage, pressured rival candidates, seized nomination forms, and later installed its own candidates as mayors and council presidents despite lacking majorities.

Dhillon presented evidence showing that in several civic bodies the administration allegedly overturned election results through bureaucratic interference. He cited the Abohar Municipal Corporation, where the BJP held 28 of 50 seats plus one MLA’s support, yet officials initially declared an AAP candidate the winner before protests forced a postponement.
