Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal visited streets and fuel stations in the capital to gather public views on E20-blended petrol effects on vehicles. Residents reported repeated breakdowns, the need for towing services, and reduced mileage after switching to the fuel.
In a video shared on X, Kejriwal noted long queues of affected cars at repair shops and widespread dissatisfaction with lower fuel efficiency. He questioned government statements on the blend’s benefits and called for an option to purchase pure petrol.
Kejriwal alleged that official claims contradict consumer experiences and accused ministers of labeling critics as anti-national. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to listen to public grievances in a democracy rather than dismiss concerns.
The Petroleum Ministry responded that introducing multiple petrol grades nationwide would create major logistical difficulties. It stated the E20 rollout followed consultations with manufacturers and testing bodies, with data from Maruti Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp showing no widespread issues. The ministry acknowledged a possible 3-5 percent drop in mileage for some vehicles but highlighted benefits such as better combustion and lower emissions.
