Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has announced a development package worth nearly 1,000 crore rupees for the Perambur Assembly constituency. The projects focus on urban infrastructure, housing, women’s safety and public spaces.
In the April Assembly elections, the Chief Minister won Perambur by more than 38,000 votes, defeating candidates from the DMK and the AIADMK. This result marked a notable victory in state politics.
The leader also won Tiruchy East but vacated that seat to retain Perambur.
Under the MLA Local Area Development fund, proposals include a women’s safety initiative and six smart bus shelters with CCTV cameras, charging ports, Wi-Fi and central monitoring. Four similar shelters are planned for other parts of North Chennai.
Perambur will also receive the region’s first pedestrian plaza at an estimated cost of 15 crore rupees along North Avenue, featuring a food street and pedestrian space.
The plaza idea was first proposed in 2024 under the previous government.
The Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner stated the projects were reviewed in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, who asked officials to prepare a detailed report promptly.
On his first visit to Perambur since taking office, the Chief Minister inaugurated a renovated MLA office equipped with workspace, CCTV and a team for public grievances, along with a Common Service Centre.
A dedicated mobile app for Perambur residents to submit and track complaints on civic issues and welfare schemes was also launched.
