The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed an appeal by Pranesh M.K., Deputy Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, against a Karnataka High Court order directing a recount of votes in the 2021 Council election.
Pranesh had secured victory by a margin of six votes.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant heard the matter, with Justices Vipul M. Pancholi and Joymalya Bagchi also on the bench. Justice Pancholi delivered the ruling.
The High Court order, issued on January 29 last year, followed a petition by Pranesh’s rival, Congress candidate A.V. Gayathri Shanthe Gowda.
The Supreme Court had reserved its decision on March 11 this year, though the judgment remains unpublished on its website.
Celebrations began at Gowda’s residence in Chikkamagaluru shortly after the ruling was announced.
