The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena organized a demonstration on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, calling on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to accept responsibility for the death of a school student in a tree-fall incident in Chembur. The party also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party administration at both state and central levels for its response to NEET-related protests in Delhi, which reportedly included baton charges.

MNS representatives called for the resignation of the BMC Garden Department Superintendent, the exclusion of involved contractors from future work, and substantial financial penalties against them.

A senior party figure questioned the low value placed on human life, pointing to repeated instances of official negligence without consequences. The statement referenced the tree incident, open drains, and the NEET paper leak that led to student suicides, asking who would accept blame.

The same leader noted online criticism directed at the Prime Minister and suggested resignation if awareness existed, while accusing the Union Education Minister of remaining in office despite public discontent.

Participants chanted slogans urging officials to perform duties or resign, and called for suspension of negligent staff. Several wore shirts bearing the phrase questioning the system.

Local residents participating in the event expressed frustration over perceived lack of government concern and questioned compensation amounts and internal inquiries that cleared municipal departments.

The original incident occurred on June 30 when a tree fell on a school bus, resulting in the death of an 11-year-old and injuries to four others. This prompted an inquiry that cleared BMC staff but recommended fines totaling seven lakh rupees against the contractor and consultant.

A party spokesperson described a pattern of absent accountability across various civic failures and stated the protest aimed to compel authorities to accept responsibility.
