Brown Sauce has confirmed the return of The Comedy Lab, offering aspiring South Asian comedians opportunities to build stand-up skills and perform with a headline act. Delivered with Tara Theatre, the third edition begins October 17, 2026, after two successful prior events. The program seeks to identify, guide and present new South Asian comedy talent via a free one-day workshop and a paid live show in London. Attendees gain advice from experienced comedians and mentors to improve material, shape their style and gain stage confidence. The session ends with each person delivering a five-minute set alongside a noted headliner. Earlier events featured Ahir Shah and Nish Kumar. Founded in 2021, Brown Sauce runs a monthly South Asian comedy night in central London. It supports both established and new performers, including past acts such as Eshaan Akbar, Shabaz Ali, Nish Kumar, Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shazia Mirza, Atsuko Okatsuka, Ria Lina, Kiran Deol, Bilal Zafar, Fatiha El-Ghorri and Joshua Bethania. The night has raised funds for charities and partnered with groups like Dishoom and Theatre Royal Stratford East. Founder Sharlin Jahan noted the success of prior participants now working regularly on the circuit and expressed pride in aiding the next group with Tara Theatre. Tara Theatre, the UK’s longest-running global majority-led company, has backed South Asian artists for decades and marks its 50th anniversary in 2027 while focusing on new voices. Artistic Director Natasha Kathi-Chandra welcomed the continued partnership and highlighted the value of showcasing fresh talent through storytelling and humor. Applications are open with limited spots for those of South Asian background who have zero to one year of comedy experience. The deadline is August 31, 2026, with notifications the week of September 14. The October 17 workshop and showcase will feature a headline act announced later, with tickets via Tara Theatre.
