Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday the creation of a high-level task force to suggest changes to India’s examination system. The group will be led by Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys.

In a video posted on X, the Prime Minister noted that the government has taken measures to protect students’ futures. He added that individuals who manipulated student outcomes are now imprisoned.

The Prime Minister mentioned that a fast-track court has been established and a new law with strict measures is being prepared for Parliament to address exam irregularities.

He stressed the importance of long-term improvements to make the examination process more dependable and open, with increased technology integration.

The task force will examine exam reforms and deliver its suggestions promptly. The government plans to implement actions based on the report to maintain the integrity of future exams.

This panel targets reforms for the National Testing Agency. It consists of experts from various fields to overhaul NTA exams, especially using technology, and propose structural changes.

Members include Nandan Nilekani, former ISRO chief S Somnath, ex-IB Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics specialist Amrit Lal Meena.

The announcement followed the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Education Minister after weeks of student protests over paper leaks.

The government intends to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on July 27 to enhance penalties and ensure quicker trials for exam fraud.
