The last trainset for Bengaluru’s Yellow Line metro arrived in the city on Monday, nearly a year after the line’s opening. Supplied by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd., the six-coach train was built at the company’s facility near Kolkata and delivered to the Hebbagodi depot.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited officials reported that the train underwent unloading, followed by coupler and gangway installation. It will then move to the Inspection Bay Line for inspections and testing. After assembly, static checks will precede 750 kilometers of dynamic testing on the main line. Successful tests are required prior to passenger service entry.
This final trainset, the 15th, should enhance operations on the 19.75-kilometer Yellow Line. Currently, 10 trains run, providing seven-minute peak-hour intervals and ten-minute off-peak service. With all 15 in use, peak-hour frequency is expected to improve to four or five minutes. Thirteen trainsets will serve passengers regularly, with two held in reserve for maintenance and emergencies.
BMRCL plans to have the full fleet active by the end of August, pending test and certification completion. TRSL will now produce 18 more trainsets for the Purple and Green Lines under another agreement.
