NEW DELHI: BJP MP Tarun Chugh stated on July 27 that the party will mark the 650th birth anniversary year of Guru Ravidas with a nationwide drive called ‘Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan’. The effort runs from July 29 to February 20, 2027.
Speaking at party headquarters, Chugh noted the seven-month program starts on Guru Purnima, July 29, 2026, and ends on the saint’s birth anniversary, February 20, 2027.
The initiative opens July 28 at Guru Ravidas’ birthplace in Varanasi, where 131 urns of local soil will be honored. On July 29, BJP leaders will launch the urns’ journey to every state and district.
‘Kalash Vandana’ events are set for 21,000 sites from July 29 to September 10. Programs will also occur at 51,000 temples starting July 29, with lamps lit nationwide that evening and a large Deepmala at the Ganga Ghat.
On July 24, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined a state workshop in Dehradun for the campaign. He praised Guru Ravidas’ teachings on equality, social justice, and harmony, noting they remain relevant and encourage rising above caste discrimination.
