Saroornagar police detained a 22-year-old repeat offender found in possession of an unlicensed country-made pistol and one live round, preventing what officers believe may have been an intended crime.

The man, identified as Mohd Imran, also known as Ibbu, works as an autorickshaw driver and lives in Shanker Nagar. He was taken into custody around 8 p.m. on Sunday at an open location in Bhagath Singh Nagar after police received information. Officers recovered the pistol, the ammunition and a mobile phone.

During questioning, Imran reportedly stated he bought the weapon and round for 40,000 rupees from a person named Shakir, originally from Bihar, whom he met at a scrap shop in Rajendranagar about a year earlier. He allegedly kept the firearm for nearly twelve months and was carrying it on Sunday for an unlawful purpose when stopped.

Police records show Imran has 17 prior cases linked to property offences across stations in the LB Nagar Zone, including seven at Vanasthalipuram, five at LB Nagar, three at Chaitanyapuri and one each at Saroornagar and Hayathnagar.

Originally from Jampaka Sahit village in Geesugonda mandal of Warangal district, he left school after Class VII and worked in various jobs before becoming an autorickshaw driver.

A case has been filed, and investigators continue efforts to identify the weapon’s origin and determine any planned offence. Officers are also seeking to locate the suspected supplier, Shakir.
