Naga Munchetty will leave BBC Breakfast after 17 years to become co-host of BBC Radio 5 Live’s breakfast programme starting January 2027.

She joined the BBC One show in 2008 as a finance reporter and served as a main presenter for the past 12 years.

Munchetty currently splits her schedule between BBC Breakfast and a mid-morning slot on 5 Live during some weekdays.

From next year she will present 5 Live Breakfast five days a week on a full-time basis.

She will continue on BBC Breakfast until the new role begins.

Munchetty said she is thrilled by the move and values live news, conversations and audience connection that 5 Live delivers well.

She called her time on BBC Breakfast a privilege and praised the talented journalists she worked with as both colleagues and friends.

The new position was an opportunity she could not decline, requiring full focus and energy.

Munchetty will replace Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards, who step down from 5 Live Breakfast in December.

BBC Radio 5 Live controller Heidi Dawson described Munchetty as one of the UK’s leading broadcasters and welcomed her journalistic approach to the breakfast show.

Dawson also thanked Burden and Edwards for their popular partnership and strong connection with listeners over recent years.
