Netflix is facing a $105 million lawsuit after an unencrypted copy of a World War II movie titled Fortitude, starring Nicolas Cage and Ben Kingsley, went missing. Swiss producer Simon Afram, who wrote the script and invested seven years and $45 million in the project, delivered a digital cinema package to the company’s headquarters in June for rights consideration, according to the legal filing. The company later confirmed the material had been stolen from its premises. Afram had previously sued director Martin Scorsese in 2023 over unpaid executive producer fees related to the same film, with the matter resolved out of court in 2024. Netflix stated it does not accept responsibility for loss when materials lack standard security protections.
